Seismic Safety: Mayor Signs New Seismic Retrofit LegislationToday Mayor Edwin M. Lee joined the Board of Supervisors and City Officials to mark the 107th anniversary of the 1906 Great Earthquake and Fire at the yearly commemoration at Lotta's Fountain in downtown San Francisco, and signed into law the Mandatory Seismic Retrofit Program for Soft Story Wood Frame Buildings, that will seismically strengthen thousands of buildings in San Francisco. 

"In order to be a truly resilient City, we must protect our residents and make sure their homes are safe after a major seismic event," said Mayor Lee. "This mandatory seismic retrofit program will protect San Franciscans, protect our housing stock and ensure San Francisco can rapidly recover from the next earthquake. Today, we renew our commitment to making sure that disasters such as the 1906 Earthquake and Fire do not devastate our City again." Read more.


New Assessor: Mayor Announces Carmen Chu as Assessor-Recorder

Mayor-chuMayor Edwin M. Lee today announced his intention to appoint District 4 Supervisor Carmen Chu as Assessor-Recorder, filling the vacancy left by Phil Ting who became California Assemblymember of the 19th Assembly district in December 2012.

“Carmen Chu will lead the Assessor-Recorder’s office with the same level of budgetary expertise and fiscal prudence she demonstrated when she provided the leadership needed to develop the City’s first two-year budget, balance a $6.8 billion annual city budget and close budget shortfalls of $380 million,” said Mayor Lee. “Carmen’s exemplary budgetary skills as Chair of the Budget and Finance Committee of the Board of Supervisors have benefited the entire City and she shares my values of equity, efficiency and responsiveness to all San Francisco residents.” Read more.

The goal is to get the public involved in solving cold case files by watching and identifying video surveillance of suspects committing crimes. Contact information will be listed below and the public can be anonymous if they choose.
