Seismic Safety: Mayor Introduces Seismic Retrofit LegislationToday Mayor Edwin M. Lee, Board President David Chiu and Supervisor Scott Wiener introduced legislation mandating the seismic retrofit of the City's large wood-frame soft-story residential buildings, a historic step forward to ensure San Francisco's resilience and safety. The legislation is also co-sponsored by Supervisors Norman Yee, Mark Farrell, London Breed and Eric Mar.

"We are taking the necessary steps to protect our residents and make sure that San Francisco is America's most resilient City," said Mayor Lee. "This legislation is the result of more than a decade of work and collaboration with tenants, property owners and seismic experts, and we have all come together to make sure we strengthen our most vulnerable residential buildings. Before the first retrofit is required, we will develop financial incentives and assistance programs to help defray costs for property owners." Read more.

New Assessor: Mayor Announces Carmen Chu as Assessor-Recorder

Mayor-chuMayor Edwin M. Lee today announced his intention to appoint District 4 Supervisor Carmen Chu as Assessor-Recorder, filling the vacancy left by Phil Ting who became California Assemblymember of the 19th Assembly district in December 2012.

“Carmen Chu will lead the Assessor-Recorder’s office with the same level of budgetary expertise and fiscal prudence she demonstrated when she provided the leadership needed to develop the City’s first two-year budget, balance a $6.8 billion annual city budget and close budget shortfalls of $380 million,” said Mayor Lee. “Carmen’s exemplary budgetary skills as Chair of the Budget and Finance Committee of the Board of Supervisors have benefited the entire City and she shares my values of equity, efficiency and responsiveness to all San Francisco residents.” Read more.
