Mayor Edwin M. Lee today welcomed the arrival of the US Navy Blue Angels to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of San Francisco Fleet Week and announced the lineup for San Francisco Fleet Week 2011. Focused on emergency preparedness, this year’s event also commemorates the 100th anniversary of the birth of naval aviation, a historic event which started here in San Francisco Bay with the first-ever launch of a plane aboard the deck of the USS Pennsylvania in 1911.

“Fleet Week is a San Francisco tradition and we take this opportunity to salute the men and women in uniform everywhere for their devotion and service to our country,” said Mayor Lee. “During this year’s 30th Anniversary of Fleet Week in San Francisco we embrace our shared mission of teaching all citizens and first responders how to get better prepared for the next emergency.” Read more.
