Mayor Lee Signs Balanced Budget for 2011-12 Mayor Edwin M. Lee today signed the City & County of San Francisco’s Fiscal Year 2011-12 budget after today’s final unanimous approval by the Board of Supervisors. The $6.83 billion balanced budget closed a $380 million General Fund budget deficit.

“Our budget reflects our core fundamental values in San Francisco and it is the result of our collective hard work and collaboration over the past several months,” said Mayor Lee. “We are protecting vital services that our residents rely on every day while putting us on a course toward long term financial stability. I thank Board of Supervisors President David Chiu and Supervisor Carmen Chu, Chair of the Board’s Budget & Finance Committee for their leadership and commitment in putting forth a budget that keeps our City safe, solvent and successful.”

Mayor Lee took office in January 2011 facing a $380 million General Fund budget deficit and immediately began an inclusive, collaborative approach to solving the budget shortfall. The budget process included an unprecedented level of public input including ten neighborhood town halls and dozens of meetings with residents, labor organizations, small business owners, non-profit service providers and other stakeholders. Board of Supervisors Approves Unanimously Pension Proposal Mayor Edwin M. Lee today issued the following statement on Board of Supervisors’ unanimous final approval of the proposed Charter amendment for pension and health benefits reform for the November 2011 ballot:

“After months of discussions with labor, business, community and City leaders, I am confident our consensus pension reform measure is comprehensive, fair, balanced, and responsible.

I am grateful to Supervisor Sean Elsbernd for leading these reform efforts to restructure San Francisco’s pension and health benefits, and to Supervisors John Avalos, David Chiu, Carmen Chu, Malia Cohen, Mark Farrell, Scott Wiener and David Campos for cosponsoring our overall strategy to bring structural reforms to our City’s long term financial planning and budgeting. Mayor Lee Announces Milestone in Planning for the 34th America’s Cupplan_boats Public Comment Period Opens for Draft EIR for Events, Related Port Cruise Terminal Project; Represents a Key Step Forward in Meeting the Challenge of Hosting America’s Cup Events.

Mayor Edwin M. Lee today announced the issuance of the Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR), a critical milestone in the planning for the America’s Cup events in 2012 and 2013 and the associated construction of the James R. Herman Cruise Terminal at Pier 27 by the Port of San Francisco.

“This is a major milestone for our efforts to bring the excitement of the America’s Cup events here to San Francisco,” said Mayor Lee. “The Draft EIR represents a significant and thorough effort by the City and its partners at the America’s Cup Event Authority and America’s Cup Race Management to analyze the impacts of the events. Now, with the help of further community input, we look forward to refining those plans even further in advance of the project approval process later this year.” Read more.
