Mayor Announces New Funding for Green Collar Job Training Program

Mayor Announces New Funding for Green Collar Job Training Program Collaborative New Partnership and Funding Aims to Create Over 2,500 Green Jobs in California

Mayor Gavin Newsom joined Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tom Steyer, Co-Managing Partner of Farallon Capital Management, to announce a $250,000 donation to create the California Advanced Lighting Controls Training Program (CALCTP), a public and private collaboration of statewide utilities, University of California at Davis, the community college system, and electrical workers and contractors that will provide hands-on green jobs training. The event took place at Levi’s Global Headquarters where significant energy efficiency building retrofits were a result of green jobs training.

“The effort to repeal or delay AB 32, California’s landmark and clean energy law, would have been an economic and environmental policy disaster for California,” said Mayor Newsom. “Thank you to Tom Steyer for his leadership in defending AB 32 and for his generous investment in green jobs training and putting people back to work. California’s economic future is one of green jobs and clean energy, and we should remain focused on continuing to reduce our reliance on foreign oil, develop clean energy resources, and grow our green economy.” Read more.
