Mayor celebrates launch of Virgin America’s SFO flights Mayor Gavin Newsom today joined Virgin Group Founder Sir Richard Branson and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to celebrate the launch of Virgin America’s first international city, Toronto, and to announce its next new destination, Mexico.

“San Francisco is proud to have Virgin America as its hometown airline,” said Mayor Newsom. “Over the last few years, they’ve created hundred of new jobs, lowered fares and helped make SFO one of the nation’s few growing airports.”

The airline celebrated its Toronto service on a flight from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)-San Francisco International Airport (SFO)-Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger joined Virgin Group Founder Sir Richard Branson onboard the LAX-SFO leg. Upon touchdown at SFO, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom welcomed Sir Richard, and the Governor.
