Mayor Gavin Newsom, the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) and the Department of the Environment joined the San Francisco taxi industry today to announce that 57 percent of the taxi fleet is comprised of hybrid or compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles. There are 788 alternative fuel vehicles out of a total of 1,378 eligible vehicles. The CNG vehicles account for 131 of those and the hybrids account for 657.

“The clean taxi program shows that aggressive action is possible at the local level to make major reductions in carbon emissions,” said Mayor Newsom. “Today’s announcement reinforces our commitment to bringing these emissions to zero.” Read more

Mayor Gavin Newsom today announced the completion of the Divisadero Streetscape Improvement Project, located on Divisadero Street between Waller and Geary. The Project is part of the San Francisco Great Streets Program, which improves neighborhood streets across the city by demonstrating best practices in design, landscaping, lighting and pedestrian safety. Of the nine total Great Streets Projects, three have been completed at Divisadero, San Bruno Avenue and Lower Polk Street, three are in construction at Van Ness, Leland Avenue, Valencia, and three are in design planning at Balboa Street, Cesar Chavez and 19^th Avenue. HireSF.org is a new initiative of the Workforce Development Division of the Office of Economic and Workforce Development (OEWD), to help San Francisco businesses find the most qualified local job seekers to fill their open positions. The site has been designed as a “Virtual One Stop” job matching system, so that employers can easily recruit from among the 46,900 San Francisco residents who are looking for work. Read more

The ASP is calculated as 15 percent of the Airport’s concession revenue each year and last year amounted to $26.8 million in payment to the General Fund as compensation for indirect services provided by the City to the Airport. The Airport estimates that the total of ASP payments through the life of the 10-year agreement could be as much as $330 million. Read more

Mayor Gavin Newsom issued the following statement about today’s mailing of the official 2010 Census Questionnaire to households nationwide:

“Throughout this week, San Francisco households will begin receiving the official 2010 Census questionnaire. It’s critical that all residents fill out this form fully and truthfully – our efforts to preserve core City services depends on it.

For every resident that accurately gets counted, San Francisco stands to gain about $4,000 in federal funding for roads, schools, hospitals and other critical services. This is our once-in-a-decade chance to ensure that every San Francisco resident is accurately counted. Read more
