02/17/10 – Mayor Newsom today applauded the announcement by Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood of the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Program award of $46,000,000 for the replacement of Doyle Drive in San Francisco. The announcement came as Mayor Newsom joined U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) to highlight job creation and economic growth spurred by the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA) on the one-year anniversary of its passage. Mayor Newsom and SFMTA Celebrate GroundBreaking of Central Subway Second Phase of Third Street Light Rail Project Will Connect Communities, Provide Thousands of Jobs

02/09/10 – Mayor Gavin Newsom today joined the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) and numerous elected and community leaders to celebrate the beginning of construction on the Central Subway, which is Phase 2 of the Third Street Light Rail Project.  When service begins in 2018, this 1.7-mile extension of the existing T Third rail line will connect communities from Visitacion Valley to Chinatown with modern, convenient light rail service.  The Central Subway will improve transit travel times, relieve congestion, enhance the environment, stimulate economic activity along the corridor and provide thousands of much-needed jobs along the way. Mayor Newsom signs Legislation Creating a New Green Financing Program Innovative Program Will Finance Energy-Efficiency, Water Conservation & Renewable Energy Improvements Repaid through Property Taxes

02/08/10 – Mayor Gavin Newsom today signed legislation creating an innovative new program to finance energy-efficiency, renewable energy, water conservation and other environmental improvements to San Francisco residential and commercial buildings. The new “green financing” program would allow home and building owners to fund environmental improvements, with the financing attached to the property and paid back through a special line item on the property tax bill over the life of the improvements.
