DPW announces holiday construction moratorium and anti-cigarette initiative
The Department of Public Works announced today that the 2009 Holiday Moratorium on street excavation and construction begins Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 2009 and continues to January 3, 2010. During this time, DPW will not issue street excavation permits to private contractors and halts its own road construction work on busy commercial corridors. Read more.
The Department of Public Works (DPW) also announced that it is partnering with the Middle Polk Neighborhood Association (MPNA) to promote a naming contest that will encourage smokers to properly and safely dispose of cigarette butts and packaging. Residents are invited to submit a catchy, memorable name and slogan that motivates smokers to safely deposit cigarette butts in the proper place: in ashtrays/bins and not on the sidewalk or street. Entries can be submitted through the MPNA website at www.middlepolk.org, by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, or sending a message via twitter at www.twitter.com/sfdpw. All entries are due by December 8th and will be scored by a group of community judges and volunteers. Top prize for the winner is $150 in gift certificates to Polk Street Merchants. More contest rules and information can be found at the MPNA website at www.middlepolk.org. Read more.
