City Launches Better Market Street Project

The Better Market Street Project is a collaborative effort between the Department of Public Works, the Planning Department, the Municipal Transportation Agency, the Mayor’s Office of Workforce and Economic Development, and the County Transportation Authority. This effort also brings together community partners, and is well supported by other City departments and agencies.

The Planning Department recently surveyed people on Market Street to gauge public opinions about our city’s main street. The overwhelming consensus of the many people surveyed was that Market Street is not living up to its potential. We’ve also heard from diverse stakeholder groups on and around Market Street that they also see room for improvement on this important street. From residents who would like to see fewer shuttered buildings and more shops to commuters tired of having their bus get stuck in traffic, Market Street is ripe for improvement.
